I just bought one of those Flip video cameras and I have no problem saving the video to my Mac, but when I try to import it into iMovie to edit it, all I get are blanks screens, sometimes with sound. Any ideas people??

This is caused by an issue with the codec for the video not being installed on your mac. When a memory or HDD based camera records video it has to be compressed in order to save space. It is compressed using a specific algorithim or codec. When you put that video onto your computer you need a codec to view and edit it, in this case AVI. This is needed for mac because AVI is a windows format. If you go online to http://www.flipformac.com and download flip for mac ( the free version might even work, however i’am not sure as I have the expensive one for FCP) then install it you should be able to watch the video in quicktime and imovie just fine
